We're usually product agnostic, but I have to admit that we're big fans of the products from Atlassian and have been using them in our business engagements since 2005. Whilst the products have changed a little over that time, what hasn't changed is the suitability of Confluence and Jira for supporting distributed collaborations within and between businesses. Whilst we don't claim to be Atlassian Dragonslayers, we know our way around business projects and what is needed for them to succeed (note: if you're after a DragonSlayer, we know a couple of great partners to help you out).

Confluence

Configuring online workspaces for documentation intensive projects where collaborative authoring is needed is a key service of ours. We're experienced in creating, sustaining and evolving Confluence with it's native feature set and a range of trusted third party plugins to help create business wikis and project workspaces aligned to rapid delivery of initiatives, including:

• Project management plans, including PRINCE2 based products;
• Integrated PRINCE2 project controls for Risk, Issue and Lessons learned logs (leveraging Jira content);
• Business process documentation and BPI, BPR projects;
• Requirements exploration and user experience prototyping with Balsamiq based screen mockups and prototyping;
• Collaborative diagramming and generation of simple to complex visual concepts with Gliffy (no more need for Visio and it's associated single instance license costs);
• Response documents to government Approaches To Market (ATM's) including RFP/RFT/EOIs;
• Sharing and co-creating content across business teams and business partners.

Jira

Delivering business projects successfully means knowing who is delivering what and when, with the ability to plan ahead by allocating work and making clear what needs to be delivered. Structured Project Management Methodologies go partway by describing 'how', but Jira helps in the defining and tracking of 'What' will be delivered, "when' it can be expected and 'who' is tasked with the responsibility. Where Jira really counts is in the transparency it offers in project delivery, providing minute by minute updates of who is working on what. For teams leveraging Agile techniques, the use of Greenhopper provides a great task based wallboard for aggregating team work into planned releases.

We've found that our clients LOVE the transparency of project team activity provided by the activity streams of Jira and being able to embed Jira content into Confluence project workspaces, minimising the need for transformation and republishing of content.
