dig festival
Laughing Mind are proud to have supported the Hunter Regions DIG Festival (Design, Interactive, GreenTech) in 2013 and 2014 and are enhancing our support for the event in 2015 with the help of Atlassian as we focus on Collaboration Practices in an Agile Age (or, how Atlassian helped tame the office meeting dragon). With Hunter as a middle name, the Founder of Laughing Mind, Brian Hill, has a long association with the region.
Having been born here, trained as an Occupational Therapist at University of Newcastle and working in family manufacturing business operations within the Hunter before moving away to work on national scale projects, skilling up as a technologist and digital strategist focussed on human factors, I'm determined to do what I can for the region to create new ways of working and new industries for the area. With lifelong memories of growing up in the Hunter, witnessing the decline of heavy industry, the strategic risk of not diversifying economic focus and the heart, resilience + inventiveness of Novocastrians, I believe that events like DIG Festival, groups such as Hunter DiGIT and the Lunaticks Society are helping to create the right message and conditions to help incubate tomorrows generation of digital + clean tech savvy entrepreneurs.
Drawing on our alliance with Atlassian as recognised Atlassian Experts where we provide consulting services on business collaboration; project, innovation+product management and business process optimisation, we'll be supporting the event as collaboration workshop presenters. I strongly encourage all local, regional and connected businesses to take advantage of the opportunities of attending DIG Festival - the themes are relevant to all businesses. The range of speakers in 2013 and 2014 was world class, with 2015 shaping up as an outstanding event. As a supporter of TEDx Canberra in previous years, we've witnessed first hand the value of having world class speakers deliver compelling talks that address current+ future world challenges, weaving together the human experience with technology and cleaner, resource savvy ways of being.
As an Australian equivalent of the acclaimed SXSW festival (which generates over $100m annually for Austin economy), having this sort of experience available in Newcastle is a great accomplishment by the organising team of DIG Festival, drawing attendees from around Australia and overseas. The value of inspiration and future-orientation evident in such an event is easy to overlook, but it's where the next generation of Australian digital and clean-tech talent are engaged, connected and collaborating, making the relationships that will count in our future economy.
In our work with Atlassian as Expert Partners, we see how Australian talent is writing a new story of Australian capability on the world stage. To give an example (bearing in mind this is a business that was started by 2 guys in their parents garage with a 10k credit card), here's our Top5 snapshot of some of the recent achievements of Atlassian to help show what can be achieved by our next generation of entrepreneurs:
