Green Canberra building rated 'six star'
New Australian Ethical Investment office showcases effective renovation approaches
Just up the road from us is the suburb of Bruce, where Australian Ethical Investment have moved into new premises at Trevor Pearcey House, undertaking a refurbishment of the office before occupying and slashing their energy bill by 75% in the process. According to the ABC news article outlining their approach, this office building has become
only the third in Australia to be given a six-star green rating.Well done to them for showing just what is possible with retrofitting older offices and breathing new life into them with a bit of inspired vision. We've been fans of their approach to ethical investing since the early 90's, when we first found out about their business model. Key highlights of the renovation?
- Estimated 75% reduction in CO2 emissions
- Estimated 75% reduction in water use
- Recycling rate for the project of >80% by weight
We like what they've done so much that we decided to profile it a little more in our Lean Practices page.
