Startup Coast
Since moving from Canberra to the Hunter and Central Coast regions in 2012, we've been steadily building up an innovation ecosystem map of the region which informs our event planning, advocacy and project activities. Earlier iterations of our map have been validated and built in a series of Meetups, innovation event participation and board or advisory roles and are reflected in related work by Gordon Whitehead, inspired by earlier StartRail maps from BlueChilli.
The map below (or in a largest format view) is a constant work in progress which we offer for the benefit of regional participants. Those who know our work recognise the advocacy role we take for founding and running a startup in a regional location. The peri-urban region north of Sydney is a vibrant, well connected innovation corridor that is constantly growing, attracting new talent and investment. It's an entrepreneurs based network view that spans the value chain of actors in our Central Coast - Lake Macquarie - Newcastle ecosystem. For an different perspective, developed from enabling entities perspective, you might want to check out this innovation ecosystem map by HunterIF. The map is necessarily incomplete and evolving, but if you want to take a broader view of the Australian innovation system, there is some excellent emerging work done by Chad Renando at StartupStatus. |
